I consider myself a photographer.  I learned the craft from my father and have been taking photographs since the summer of 1987.  In my 47 years on this earth, never has a photograph gripped me like this one.  I could not stop looking at it.  I was left without words.  All I could do was weep.  Everyone should know the story by now.  It has been a fixture in the news for the last week.  A three-year-old Syrian boy was found washed up on a Turkish beach.  He and his brother and mother were fleeing Syria by rubber dingy.  It sunk, and they drowned.  No words can express the agony of the father left behind.

Life on this earth is hard, and our hearts can become hard as an unintended consequence.  There is more and more evidence of this all around us.  It is very important to maintain sensitivity to the sacredness of human life, whether it is black life, white life, yellow life, red life, or even unborn life.
